What does your typical workday look like? Mine isn’t very typical at all. Sometimes, I’m at my desk all day completing assignments, going through emails and following up on projects. Other days, I’m driving to and from events or printing out fliers. I’ve even spent full workdays in several meetings. While each day can be dramatically different, there are still a few things that can you help you stay on track during the day.

Creating a structure for yourself is important to maintaining a productive workday. And the smallest things make my workdays so much easier. Whether my day is super busy or really slow, I could never go without items like lip balm or hand sanitizer. Read below to see what items you might be missing and why they’re so important to your work life.

Lip balm.

I carry lip balm around with me everywhere I go. But having some at work is absolutely one of the most important. Think about it. You spend your workday chatting with your colleagues, giving presentations or possibly hosting meetings. The more you talk, the more dry your lips get. Be sure to keep some lip balm around to prevent your lips from getting more chapped throughout the day.

Headphones.

I can’t tell you how much easier it is for me to get through work when I have my earbuds in. I can play my favorite music and not have to worry about disturbing anyone else in the office. It’s the perfect way to zone in!

A watch.

Maybe you can’t use your phone at work, or you’re running around the office and can’t find a clock. You need some way to keep track of your time, right? I never thought I would be one of those people who colors all over her calendar. But I love it! Color-coding my notes is an easy way to stay organized and stay on task. My eyes immediately go to the assignments that have the most priority, and I work my way from there.

Hand sanitizer.

I feel like this kinda goes without saying, but keeping your hands disinfected throughout the day is a must! Keeping a bottle of sanitizer around is the perfect way to protect yourself against illness and other pesky viral infections that may be going around the office. Of course, hand sanitizer should not be a substitute for washing your hands or just simply staying away from sick people. But hand sanitizer is a great complement to maintaining your daily health, and I recommend everyone have at least one bottle at his or her desk.

The items I mentioned above may be small, but they’ve been lifesavers for me more than once! My Jord watch has especially been helpful for me. When I’m running around from meeting to meeting, it’s so much easier to look down at my watch to keep track of the time. It definitely less disruptive to look at your watch than to look down at your phone. Not to mention, a lot of my work clothes don’t have pockets, so I don’t always have my phone with me.
